The Spring Warbler migration is basically finished. I was again delighted to travel to Magee Marsh, along Lake Erie, a hotspot for spotting warblers. I was able to add 14 new birds to my life list! I don’t know when I will see my next new species, which will put my recorded Life List to 300.

The First Look

Glasses off, and Binoculars on!

A lady enjoying the Millersburg “Rails to Trails” trail which is a great place for walking. My wife was way ahead briskly walking her daily morning walk. I am lagging behind, with my camera and binoculars, getting distracted by birds and their sounds! I use the Merlin app, to identify bird sounds, and sometimes even get to see the birds. Looking forward to the Warbler migration which has already started, but will soon pick up speed! With the warm weather the leaves on the trees are starting to come out, which will give the warblers some cover, and make photographing them a challenge!

Birds in Flight

In the top photo is a Baltimore Oriole leaving a feeder after getting his grape jelly. This was the first time I saw this species this Spring. The bottom photo is of a female and male Northern Cardinal. The Cardinals were in a frenzy, going to and fro, the male chasing the female. It is obviously mating time!

Facing the Fog

I think this is a Song Sparrow singing his heart out, penetrating the fog with his song!!

Quizzical

Female House Finch at our window feeder!

House Hunting

Will the bluebirds get the winning contract for the birdhouse?

Or will it be the House Sparrow?

Lifer

After eluding me last Saturday, this species of bird was again heard yesterday, and I was able to get a glimpse of it, and get a photo, as well! It is a Field Sparrow. Lifer for Birders means it is the first time in your life that you have seen this bird, and identified it!

4 am cleaning off the car; bkfst with friends, and then picking up some of my boss’s family, and birding. Obviously we could set up the scope on the road, since it was flooded and nobody was going on past this point. Saw many birds, but only one new bird! It always felt good to get back in to the car, to travel to the next site.

Crocuses are blooming; Love is in the air!

Several weeks ago, a fellow employee, where I work quit working. Soon I heard she was dating an employee!! That same week, I picked up some taxi customers, and the daughter had her boyfriend with her! He looked familiar, and I realized he was the son of another customer. What a surprise to find out they had just started dating! Also on Thursday evening this week, I saw a male Woodcock putting on an aerial performance to try and impress a female woodcock! Spring is welcome, though the Calendar and weather forecast say it isn’t here yet!
