INDEPENDENCE DAY for the U.S.A. It’s amazing to think that the U.S. was only 195 years old when Bangladesh became a nation!! We missed the fireworks usually a part of this day, but there were another kind of fireworks as the Remian Raiders celebrated their latest tournament win with a great meal at Kentucky Fried Chicken!!!

STREET DWELLER neighbor
Notice this fellows feet sticking out of his shelter. I’m not sure what put this fellow on the street. He has lived here for a long time. Every so often I buy him breakfast. One day I bought him a bag of rice. Later I saw him filling plastic bottles with the rice. I noticed that every grain he spilled was picked up to be used. I had wondered how he would survive Cyclone Sidr in 2007, but when the storm calmed I saw that he and his shelter were ok.

REMIAN RAIDERS win the “Level: Next….Talent Hunters” Underground Tournament with a stunning defeat of the “Soccer Knights, 2-0 in the final match. Here is a photo of the jubilant team. In addition to the satisfaction of winning they also won 20,ooo taka and a nice trophy.

REMIAN RAIDER heads the ball for a goal. It was disqualified because the corner flag was taken down for the corner kick! 😦
This afternoon the Remian Raiders play in the finals of this tournament against the Josephites.

Nice head shot
MAHBOOB, the striker in action.
Mabub showed his great style putting the Remian Raider’s only goal into the net with gusto, with the help of Asif. This was not his goal shot, but an earlier shot of him centering the ball. The Raiders finished the game with a 1-1 score requiring a shoot-out. They won the shoot-out so are in the semi-finals his afternoon at the Abohani field in Dhanmondi.

HEAD SHOT following corner kick
The team I coach won their must-win game yesterday 2-1 to qualify for the tournament final matches.

FOURTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIION
I wanted to celebrate our 40th anniv. with the footballers I play with on weekends so I had a special meal ordered for them for after our game. They also came with this cake.

SANTOSHI, my Nepali daughter! She works at the trekking company that arranged out trek. She is a very fine young lady, who does a wonderful job. It was a pleasure to become acquainted with her. She made sure we were well taken care of. I think she was a little worried about us trekking, though very pleased when she found out we had a wonderful time trekking 4 days in the Anapurna area.

TEA STAND OPERATOR just down the street from our apartment.
Likely no more “daily” posts until we return from Nepal on June 1. See you then!
