Day 36

WILL THE TRAFFIC EVER STOP?

Today at 2 pm I was glad I was walking.  I’m sure it took me less time than any vehicles going the same direction to the same place.  Too many schools, of course none with parking lots.  When parents or guardians pick up the children they park in the street.  Our community has many many schools.  It affects side streets as well as the main streets.

Day 32

YOUNG LADS

I had a nice walk this morning to Farmgate with my XTI in hand.  I was asked to stop at a tea stand for a cup of tea and conversation.  With some help I located a restroom in a bus company administrative building.  Upon exiting I found a fellow who wanted to discuss politics, so we chatted as I resumed my walk.  We parted ways near farmgate and I looked for photo-ops before returning home.  Todays’ photo is of two lads who wanted their photo taken.  Alice and I did some shopping at Gausia market near New Market and had lunch at “Midnight Sun” a great Chinese/Thai restaurant.  Alice had a delightful mixed salad and I had some sweet and sour fish.

YAWN
I was up at 4 AM on the 31st.  Had a power outage just as I was going to post this, so I decided to hit the sack and post it this morning.

Day 30

LAD

This young lad wanted me to stop and take his photo, so I did!  Not a great hardship.  I love all the portraits available in this great city of Dhaka, Bangladesh!  Oops, I think I forgot to downsize it!

Day 27

GRANDPA/GRANDSON TIME

Sitting in a traffic jam  yesterday I realized that we are not far away from some hot days!  I had a fun time yesterday.  I stopped and picked up Riley, my 5-yr old grandson on the way to the soccer match.  Galib’s (football player) mother gave me a copy of a book of poems she had printed and will be put on sale at the large Book fair coming up next month.  It will be good practice for practicing my Bangla reading.  As soon as Galib came home we went to the game (20 min by CNG after 15 minutes trying to locate one!).  We arrived late!   😦  Only one of the four of  us were players, but I found out that we had actually started the game one player short!   It was the second half and our team was tied 1-1.  Before long it was 3-1 and we had lost.  Riley enjoyed the time, writing on the sidewalk with a piece of a red brick!  He did take a few photos as well of the second game.  Of course, on the way home he was excited because we bought some cotton candy off of a vendor who was meandering through the stopped traffic.!!

Here is Riley drawing on sidewalk with a piece of a brick oblivious to the soccer game.

Day 26

Fisherman # 4 is going to have to wait!!  I had to post this great shot of Rishan Asif, one of Remian Raider’s strikers.

Here is Asif still in the air after a great head-shot!

Day 24

HAPPY 57TH BIRTHDAY  to Warren, my brother!

Day 15

Austin’s were in Malaysia over Riley’s birthday so we had a belated Birthday party.  Riley was as excited as 5 yr-old’s can be.   When you talk of recycling paper we experienced it.  We bought a pack of printer paper and on the inside was a poster for the election.  Alice then took the paper and again used it to wrap Riley’s gifts.

Day 14

Shaheen, our helper brought her 11 year-old daughter to work with her yesterday.  I decided to show her how to paint.  She helped me do quite a bit of this project painting two shelving units for the kitchen.

Day 13

We attended a engagement party for friends (Jon and Fiona)just days before they are heading for New Zealand and then Australia for an April Wedding.  They will likely return to Bangladesh in 2011.  It was a special time.
