Day 115

JETA MAJUMDER AND his friend, whom I met at Dhaka University on Pahela Baishakh.

Day 105

MY FAVORITE PHOTO from the New Year’s Day celebration in Bangladesh.

PAHELA BAISHAKH (Bengali New Year – 1417), ( was celebrated in Dhaka.  The festivities started at sunrise.  I first played a football match and then headed to Ramna Park, followed by Dhaka University.  At Ramna Park this group of Drama Club members welcomed me into their tent, where I enjoyed Panta Bhat (rice soaked in water) with hilsha fry (national fish), and alu chop.  They helped to make it a special day for me.

OUR HOUSEHELPER dusting my desk!

Day 88

SECURITY GUARD THAT usually takes my bag when I’m shopping at  a local supermarket.

A DRIVER FROM OUR apartment building proudly standing in front of the car he drives.

Day 77

MY FRIEND GETTING ON THE BUS FOR DHAKA.  I traveled with the truck to Dhaka.

Day 76

MY FRIEND PUTTING THE BOLT into the tailgate on the load of furniture, etc. that we were taking to Dhaka from Kumarkhali.

RANA, MY FRIEND relaxing, while waiting for our friend’s football game to start in Khulna.  The bed spread has some nice handwork on it.

Day 68

MAGAZINE STAND Operator where I buy the South Asian version of the Reader’s Digest every month.  It is a special treat for Alice, which pleases her every time I buy it.

Day 67

LADY IN GREEN with her proud husband.  I met this friendly couple at my friend’s wedding.

HALIM AND RUMKI – Halim is a friend of mine.  We were attending the wedding of another friend at the Parliament Member’s Club.  We had a nice typical meal of mutton biriyani, chicken, jorda, and borhani!
