Red-Bellied Woodpecker

This woodpecker has been coming to our bird feeder. He loves the peanuts. We have a pair of bluebirds that returned again this year and have hatched little ones. One of the adult bluebirds keeps dive-bombing this woodpecker. He must be very territorial!

Looking at Me

Not sure if this bluebird actually could tell that someone inside the window was there taking its photo. Maybe the way the sun was, etc, he could tell there was movement. Anyway, it seemed like he noticed me! It was nice to see the bluebirds back. The bluebirds had come back again this year, so I hurried and put their birdhouse outside in its usual spot. Then sparrows started making nests in the house, which I removed the second time. I think the sparrows gave up, because now the bluebirds have taken ownership of the house again.

House Hunting

Will the bluebirds get the winning contract for the birdhouse?

Or will it be the House Sparrow?

I woke up 51 years ago, and realized I had heard the bluebirds sing!! I had first met my  wife the day before! The following ballad comes close to telling our story, though it was first recorded when we were 4 years old!  For complete rendition!

I met a girl out in the hills who gave my lonely heart a thrill
Her beauty seemed just like a breath of spring
And when I looked into her eyes I thought of blue mid summer skies
When I held her hand in mine I heard the bluebirds sing

“I Heard the Bluebirds Sing” is a charming ballad about a happy older couple looking back on their courtship. The song was first recorded on a 78 rpm record in 1952 by Hod Pharis and Little Anne, for the Vancouver-based Aragon Label.
