Green-Winged teal

After 6 hours of painting!

What the roughout looked like after I carved in some details.

In Memory

Being encouraged by a good friend to post my photos, I decided it was time to put up this post. Martha Yoder, my wife’s sister passed away on December 3, 2024. She was 73 years old, after a 1.5 year battle with cancer. Martha loved angels, so my wife wanted me to carve an angel in memory of her that we could include with our Christmas decorations. I ended up, carving three angels, and finished them with three different finishes. We are missing Martha during this season.

Trout Chasing Minnows

The trout, minnows and base were all carved out of one piece of wood by a carver from the Geppetto Woodcarvers club in Parkersburg, WV!

Cowboy

I finished carving this cowboy from a rough-out, and painting it this week. I painted the carving with acrylic paints, and then sprayed with a coat of shellac.

This was my Christmas Eve activity, in between taxi runs!

Jumping Jack

I was inspired by this toy a friend brought to carving club. I think I will try to carve one similar to it! Happy Day before U.S. Thanksgiving. I loved it when in Canada we celebrated Thanksgiving in October, and then also celebrated Thanksgiving in November!!! It even made me feel special when the other day, someone posted a blog regarding Father’s Day in Sweden. I love special days, and love being a father!

Our carving club met at a local shop on Saturday. Here Dave is demonstrating how to simulate on the young man’s carving of a deer. Also a photo of my tools and cup of coffee!

Painter

During this slow time in my taxi work, and doing rep work for a mattress company, I have done quite a bit of painting. Basically re-doing some rooms in our home, and also found time to paint three of my latest carvings.
