Day 1

DRINKING TEA

I decided to interrupt the Nepal photos with this photo my friend took of me sipping Bengali tea during a photo shoot in Old Dhaka.  A bus driver who ran the route from Holmes Co., Ohio to Sarasota, Fl. was discussing me with my Mom in Florida.  He said it is the fellow who looks out over the top of his glasses.  I guess he was right!  I’d like to thank my friend Matthias, who dropped this photo onto my desktop while I was in Nepal.

Day113

LUNGI and my favorite t-shirt.  After yesterday’s photo showing the out-of-focus spools of thread used in lungi making I thought I should follow-up with a photo showing how a lung is worn.  It is never worn by women.  It does resemble a wrap-around skirt, but with no ends to the skirt (basically a length of fabric with the ends sewed together.

Me in a lungi and my favorite t-shirt!

Day107

ON THE PADMA

Last weekend we spent in Joypara.  We took this boat across the Padma River in Southern Bangladesh to an Island.  We played football, waded, and I took some photos of some birds.  After several hours we took the boat to see the mansion of a former Minister of the previous government, and then headed back to the shore  near a bus stand.  This photo is of me with Kamal, our host and the boatman.

Day 85

INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!!

A special day for a special country and special people!  My friends took this photo when we returned from watching a cricket match between South Africa and Bangladesh.

At home in Bangladesh!!

HAIRCUT I went up the street to Towne Hall Bazaar to get my haircut. It reminded me of this photo that Craig Mullet took in November.  At this little shop without doors the haircut costs me 30 tk (45 cents U.S.)!

Barber in action!

Day 45

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

This is the 43 Valentine’s Day since we met!  We met on September 18, 1966.  1,000 days later Alice became my wife.  Those were the longest 1,000 days of my life!!  Valentine’s Day 2006 was a very special day for us, since it was the day her Oncologist declared her cancer free, five years following her bout with colon cancer.   She is enjoying a dozen red roses I bought her for 160 taka ($2.35 USD).  I also bought her a throw for the couch which a group in Mymensingh made.  It was parts of two saris sewn together back to back and quilted.
