BOLI KHELA (WRESTLING)

I HEARD MUSIC AND ANNOUNCEMENTS THE SECOND DAY SO I RETURNED TO THE VILLAGE TO SEE THE BOLI KHELA.  This time there were young men wrestling, so the information I had at first was accurate.  They must have decided to also add some bull fighting to give the two day festival some variety.  Here is a description of  the Boli Khela:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boli_Khela

Boli Khela (or Bali Khela) (Bengali: বলীখেলা) is a traditional form of wrestling in Bangladesh, particularly popular in the Chittagong area. Boli means a powerful person in Bengali, while Khela denotes a game. It is particularly played in the month of Chaitra (March-April in the Bangla Calendar).[1] A festival usually takes place on the 25th of April in the port city Chittagong at the Laldighi Maidan attracts thousands of supporters each year.  Wikipedia

I HEARD MUSIC AND ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM A NEARBY VILLAGE and wondered what event was happening.  Several workers told me it was a Boli Kela.  They said it was a wrestling match.  I went to check it out, and lo and behold it was an event where the villagers brought their bulls and tried to get them to fight!  I got some great photos of the action.  One fellow said the fighting was quite tame, as it seemed that the bulls couldn’t quite get into it.

ALICE WENT TO THE MEMORIAL CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL FOR SOME ROUTINE MEDICAL TESTS.  ALL OUR TESTS WERE NORMAL!

THE HOTEL WE WANTED TO STAY AT DIDN’T HAVE THEIR BASIC ROOMS AVAILABLE SO WE STAYED AT HOTEL PALACE INN.  It is a nice hotel for the price of 990 Indian rupees ($20 USD).  They had room service with some tasty Bengali food.  The Hotel facility may have been 2 Star but their service was 5 Star!

MOON DAS, a very helpful worker who took care of room service!

IT’S TIME TO HEAD OUT OF BANGLADESH TO FULFILL THE 90 MULTIPLE-ENTRY LIMIT ON OUR VISAS.  It cost less than $6 USD for two of us to travel to the India border at Akaura.
