Sitting on our porch, a favorite spot this summer. Our anniversary was in mid-June, and then later, Alice’s birthday. Soon after we celebrated 20,000 days since we met, way back in 1966. This week we were on a business trip and heard on Wednesday evening that my 97 year-old Mother had fallen and broken her femur. The next day (My 73rd birthday), I stopped in at 6 stores, in two states, and headed home, arriving by 10:20 pm, so we could be there for Mom’s surgery this afternoon. My wife and I are now the same age. I am sure we will find some time later in which to celebrate my birthday!
Happy birthday 🎈!

I’m delighted she’s over the surgery. Hope she’ll be like my Dad when he broke his femur in his late 80s and shock you with incredible speed of his rehab. Basically, like it never happened!!

She has been in rehab, since Monday. We can’t visit:-( She is combative at times. With dementia she doesn’t understand what is going on. Second new place in a week’s time. Supposedly we can visit on September 1st, 3 days before her 98th birthday. Thanks for asking.

Apologies for delayed response.
Change is always very complex, especially after surgery. I hope she settles well when you can get to visit.

How has she been since you wrote and how is the rehab going?
Late isn’t ideal, methinks.

She may be eating a little bit more. Resisting rehab. Not walking with walker. With wheel chair to restroom. And does get into a recliner.

Sounds like you’re needed to inspire her to get into the rehab. Hard after surgery with strangers. Fingers crossed.

Nurses were really busy today, so we didn’t find out anything about her eating or PT. We had a nice hour with her. She was in real good spirits. So happy.

Just picked up your message, Marrland. Have been away from WP. Glad it was a good visit. How has she been since?

It was good, though she is hesitant to do PT! Also, rarely eats anything. She does drink shakes sometimes!

You’ll have to speak to her ‘severely’ as my mother used to say! Also tempt her with tiny portions of her irresistible favourites delivered with a smile!
