Cardinals Enjoy Backyard Sunflowers

Barn Owl and Roseate Spoonbill

After not being successful in seeing the Roseate Spoonbill in Holmes County, I was fortunate to get photos of the one in Wayne County. I had some taxi customers that were hoping to see the bird. And we were very successful.  A birder friend wanted to know the whereabouts of barn owls in Holmes County, so I did some research and actually found a male that posed nicely for me. I also had some nice conversation in the landowners living room!

I set out for Force Rd. at the Killbuck Creek Wildlife Area in Wayne County, Ohio, to see if I could locate the King Rail, which had eluded me during at least 3 other visits! This time I was rewarded with a sighting of the birds, as well as the bonus of the other animals! Disclaimer:  Some experts verified that these birds were the Common Gallinule bird! So it goes! Maybe next time!

One of the many warblers seen on the boardwalk at Magee Marsh (Crane Creek) during the “Biggest Week in American Birding-2018 !”  This is NW Ohio, the Warbler capital of the world!

Yellow Beauty

Yellow Warbler, seen on the Magee Marsh Boardwalk, on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, during the “Biggest Week in American Birding!”  It truly was Warbler Heaven during this time. This is one of my best photos during that visit!  Using a Canon EOS 7D with a EF 70-300mm lens at: 300 mm; ISO 2500; f 25; 1/500 sec exposure.

Spring is Here!

Thinking the danger of freezing was over, on April 30, I put out my hummingbird feeder. I was rewarded by a visitor on May 1!   I was delighted!!

Wren House Gets Snowed On

The snow will have to melt before any Wrens will want to make their home here! This snow has already melted and replaced, at least once! But we know that Spring will come! It has come faithfully every year, I can remember!!

This was taken at Sippo Lake, in Canton, with a 300mm lens and a Tamron 2x extender.  I have been wanting to get a good photo of these birds, but haven’t been successful! I really had to stretch this shot digitally, so somewhat grainy, also added some medium HDR, so not a super photo, but it shows the bird! tc
