Day 109

EVEN SMALL MANUAL DRIVEN ferris wheels have fares. In Bangla it is a nagordola.   10 taka (15 Cents) will get you a short “wild” ride!

Day 108

ARTIST’S WORK ON HER CHEEK, RED EARRINGS,  AND FLOWERS IN HER HAIR, shows the lady’s New Year’s Day spirit.  It was a very festive day.

THESE GIRLS ARE ENJOYING this mini ferris wheel which operates only with human force.  They are hanging on tightly!  I also rode one of these and it was an enjoyable ride.

PAHELA BAISHAKH, the first day of the Bangla New Year is the biggest holiday for Bangladesh.  These boys wanted their photo taken.

Day 105

MY FAVORITE PHOTO from the New Year’s Day celebration in Bangladesh.

PAHELA BAISHAKH (Bengali New Year – 1417), ( was celebrated in Dhaka.  The festivities started at sunrise.  I first played a football match and then headed to Ramna Park, followed by Dhaka University.  At Ramna Park this group of Drama Club members welcomed me into their tent, where I enjoyed Panta Bhat (rice soaked in water) with hilsha fry (national fish), and alu chop.  They helped to make it a special day for me.
