Day113

LUNGI and my favorite t-shirt.  After yesterday’s photo showing the out-of-focus spools of thread used in lungi making I thought I should follow-up with a photo showing how a lung is worn.  It is never worn by women.  It does resemble a wrap-around skirt, but with no ends to the skirt (basically a length of fabric with the ends sewed together.

Me in a lungi and my favorite t-shirt!

Day107

ON THE PADMA

Last weekend we spent in Joypara.  We took this boat across the Padma River in Southern Bangladesh to an Island.  We played football, waded, and I took some photos of some birds.  After several hours we took the boat to see the mansion of a former Minister of the previous government, and then headed back to the shore  near a bus stand.  This photo is of me with Kamal, our host and the boatman.

Two worlds meet!

Day 104

Day 100

AFTER DINNER

(L to R) Rehanna, Alice, Dolly (Rehanna’s dau.) and Dustin.

Rehanna and Dolly escorted us to the street to get transportation to travel to our section of the city.  They were so glad that we had come to their home to enjoy a meal, meet the family, and visit.   In this culture relationships are so much more valuable than things.  We are more than glad to help donate clothes, etc. to help families of this housing area to try and get their lives back together after the tragic fire that destroyed many of their homes.  It is blessing that no one lost their life in the fire.  Ten were injured, including one fireman.

Farewells after a nice visit and meal!

Day 98

JANATA  HOUSING in which 100 homes were destroyed on Monday by fire.  This is Alice and Dustin.  We were here at the invitation of the lady who does cleaning and cooking at Dustin’s office.  She invited us for a meal, and to meet her family.  Her sister’s house was also destroyed. Her house was one that was destroyed!

Before Fire destroyed 100 homes.

Day 95

HOMEWARD BOUND

After the haircuts we got on a rickshaw and headed home.  After taking the photo, I actually sat up behind Jensen on the back of the seat.

Is there still room for Grandpa?

Day 94

DURING HAIRCUT

Here is Jensen getting his haircut.  There is a photo of one of these barbers cutting my hair in November.  It was taken by friends visiting us.  I’m sure soon there will be new photo to put on their mirror!

BEFORE HAIRCUT

On Thursday, Austin, Marita, Jim (Marita’s brother) and his wife, Normi went to Mymensingh for a day trip.  Therefore, our grandsons spent the day with us, from 5:30 am to 10 pm.  Marita had said I could take them to the barber.  I told them that ever since I had taken them to the barber last June, he asks me where they are, when I get a haircut.  Well here is a series of photos featuring Jensen, the oldest grandson.

Day 80

RILEY, my Grandson

I couldn’t resist this year old photo.  It was taken on the river in Mymensingh.  Our grandsons came to our apartment yesterday for their weekly supper and evening to give their parents a night out on the town!  They are so full of energy.
