YESTERDAY WAS A FULL DAY as we celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary. We walked for 45 minutes at 4:45 am. At 6:45 I played 2 hours of tennis, followed by a nice breakfast. Was back home in time to go to Coffee World to celebrate with Dustin and Alice. We were celebrating our anniversary, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Alice’s birthday which is coming up in 4 days. Home in time for a nap before supper. Supper was left-overs! Of course the left0vers were mashed potatoes and steak! I must confess it is the best steak in Dhaka, since my wife knows how to cook up a terrific swiss steak. I then went shopping for some things Alice wanted before our trip and also bought 20 red roses, which she really enjoyed. Then after shopping I had a few minutes before we went to Jeremy’s for A & W root beer floats. This is one of our favorite drinks! It was very thoughtful of them to fix these for us. Then it was home to bed. Today was almost as fast and furious. A friend who had borrowed my camera returned it at 8:20 pm, in plenty of time for our 5:30 am departure for the train station. Almost a week in Syhlet, Bangladesh and then on into India, staying near Cherrapungee for several days.
HAPPY 42ND ANNIVERSARY TODAY FOR Alice, my wonderful wife and I. She has been a faithful comrade throughout life. Whether hiking in Nepal, Colorado, Arizona or Bali she has been a trooper navigating canyons, volcanoes, and mountains! Married life, in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Ontario, Ohio and Bangladesh! I thank God for giving me such a wonderful companion. I met her on September 18, 1966 in beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and married her 1,000 days later!!
On a 4 day hike in Nepal from near Pokhara up to Poon Hill and back.
Celebrating our 40th anniversary!
EKUSHI FEBRUARY, AND INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY! MY WIFE, ALICE, AND I HAD our faces painted which is a tradition on holidays. We both had the Shohid Minar (language martyrs memorial) painted on our faces and Alice had the Bangladesh national flag painted on her hand. This is the day in 1952 when some students were martyred who were protesting because Pakistan didn’t want Bangla as one of the national languages. At this time Alice and I were 3 1/2 years old.
CHRISTMAS EVE!!!! We hope all our friends around the world have a great Christmas Eve, and of course a special Christmas Day. I think Alice is missing not having the family together for Christmas. I had a whole grilled snapper for supper and Alice had Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice with veg and chicken and fried egg and sate! It was take-out from Cafe Nyoman near the Hotel Lumbung Damuh. I confess my two Diet Pepsi’s cost as much as Alice’s meal! The snapper was 75,000 Ind. Rupiah ($8.30!) It was late afternoon before we realized it was Christmas Eve, so we decided to celebrate! There is a Resort restaurant next door that had a special meal this evening for $60 per plate. We ate our take-out enjoying their Christmas music: Jingle Bells, etc. some hymns as well as some old John Denver era songs! Not sure when the music will end, but it is soothing and nostalgic. With the music and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach it is a nice way to spend Christmas with your best friend! And no snow to shovel!!! I had to add that for my Ohio friends. I also heard that Europe will be having a very white Christmas!
I can’t stop with one photo, so I’ll add a sunset photo over the bay.
ALICE AND I ARE CELEBRATING OUR 41st WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TODAY! Up at 4:30 AM for a 50 min walk and back by 5:30 AM. No sense wasting a good day by sleeping! 🙂
I had a great bean and cheese burrito for breakfast. We are trying to empty our freezer before we leave, and I think the last trip to the market I bought too many beans! If and when I run out of beans I’ll head for the local hotel (little local restaurant) for some dal, bhaji, and nan ruti!
We’re whacking away at our to-do lists in preparation for heading to America. We were hoping to be done yesterday but didn’t quite make it. Pulled out some cupboards, the fridge, etc. so Shaheen, our house helper could clean behind them. We want things “spic and span” when Lewis’ arrive. They will be staying in our apartment upon their return to Bangladesh, until they find a permanent place to locate. I just finished off some mango juice, which we will miss while in the U.S. After another bean & cheese burrito I think it may be nap time. I see Alice is on the couch fast asleep compensating for the early morning. This morning she had cooked up the rest of the veggies that were in the freezer into a nicy spicy veggie/potato mixture, which I will be enjoying for several days. It’s almost 4 am in the U.S. so I think I’ll post this since the 14th of June (our anniversary) has arrived in the U.S. as well!
This photo was taken last year as we celebrated with the Friday and Saturday morning footballers I play with. They gave us a beautiful red trimmed crystal vase.
MY DEAR WIFE AND I

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, to my wife, Alice.
Now I am again living with an older woman. I follow close behind her, since I will turn 61 in August!
Here she is having fun with a Nepali lady, likely about all the photos I was taking!

NICE VASE
The footballers gave us this vase as a 40th anniv. gift. I then had it filled with 20 roses. Note two of our grandsons playing football in the right side background.

FOURTIETH ANNIVERSARY COUPLE
We celebrated with our family on the rooftop of a restaurant under a section of tin roof in a torrential downpour! Precious memories. Some amazing lightning and thunder.
