Amish Barn-Raising

They didn’t want people getting up close during this barn-raising, and since I don’t have a telephoto lens for my Sony alpha6000, this is the shot I got this morning. this event might only happen in this community, once in three years. Two weeks and one day ago, the original barn was on fire. This is how it looked at 9 am this morning. I suspect it was finished by the day’s end. The Amish church community got together, and by today the farmer had another barn! For years this was done without the help of the machinery, to lift the rafters etc.

Waiting in Madrid for our Flight to Rome!

Getting out of the MiniVan at the Hotel!

Mountains

And Valleys

September 18, 1966 I met my dear wife, Alice in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, at the beginning of our freshman year of college! Now married 50 years, we look back and see mountains and valleys which we crossed. What a wonderful journey!!!

The song which somewhat depicts our romantic beginnings!

To continue this journey we are leaving Friday morning for NYC, and then flying to Rome on Saturday evening for a 9 day cruise, visiting Italy, Greece and some Greek Islands. Thanks, Alice for letting me journey through life with you!!!!!

P.S. The above photos were taken on the Neiderhorn, in Switzerland in 2013.

Writing up an order!

This lady decided to test out our motion bed for comfort!

My mother always marked a circle in the center of the cake before cutting the cake, so the pieces wouldn’t have a point on the end! Her she is with her 96th birthday cake!

Time to blow out the candles with her Great Grandson, whose birthday we were also celebrating.

Amish Country School House

Outhouses (toilets) for Girls and Boys!

Backstop for the softball playing field!

I remember these items well from my grade school days. In those days most of the people in the countryside had one-room school houses within two miles from their homes (at the farthest).

With taxi work sometimes you haul little boys’ toys! You wouldn’t want him to be at his cousins’ place all day without his bicycle, would you?

Did anyone notice an item in the top photo which was featured in a previous blog post?
