Plowing with three workhorses, a familiar scene in Holmes County, Ohio in the Spring time!

Finished work up close! I just noticed the robin in the foreground, obviously looking for an earthworm or two!

This Amish farmer, near Becks Mills, Ohio decided it’s time for Spring fieldwork, so he hitched up his horses and went to work.

This Amish Mother and daughter decided to return and walk home later. When they had walked to church it had been a “balmy” 39 degrees F, but by noon things had changed, with a fierce west wind.

With my tele lens and the speed of the girl, this photo only captured the lady! Stay warm!

These Amish youth are enjoying this cold weather to get some ice skating in. On some ponds they also play ice hockey. I think this photo shows them playing a game, where they tag people on the other team, and they can only be released when you sneak behind the lines and tag them. This cold spell lasted almost 4 weeks. I think the skating ended several days ago. It is pouring “cats and dogs” today. Forecast is for some freezing rain, which I hope doesn’t happen.

Some of the Auction attendees are not paying attention to the current items for sale!

Typical scene in Holmes County, Ohio in January.

Young lady walking to a neighbor’s wedding. Note the cool backpack!” The orange cone is supposed to help slow down the vehicle traffic, because of all the folks walking, buggies and vehicles entering and exiting the homestead.

Men lining up according to their age. Then at a certain before the service, they go in with the oldest gentleman going first. When I attend an Amish wedding or church service I like to make sure I go in with the older gentleman (after all I am 75!) so I will likely be able to sit on one of the handful of chairs they have for the elderly, so they don’t have to sit on a bench that doesn’t have a back! 🙂

The buggies (carriages) in the foreground with the men line up behind them in photo. With the heat we have been having this last week or two, they are for sure using the open buggies.

The hay rake and baler stand idle while the people attend the wedding.

Here are two of the three wagon loads of hay that were sitting in the barnyard. I assumed that when I returned to pick up the taxi customers at the wedding these wagons would still be loaded waiting for the wedding attendees to come and unload them. I was surprised when I drove by and they were empty. I saw some young men near the farmstead so obviously they stayed home to put the hay away while the parents, and maybe sisters attended the wedding.

The third load of hay waiting to be unloaded.

These young men were having an enjoyable time on the trail. I am sure they covered more territory than I did, though I did enjoy my leisurely 3 mile walk. It was less leisurely since I left my camera and binoculars at home!

Amish coming together for a funeral service. The five ladies on the right were my Taxi passengers, including my Aunt.
