I VISITED THE SHAH JALAL MAZAR in Syhlet yesterday. This is a shrine for the Muslim Saint Hazrat Shah Jalal. Here is a Muslim Bengali feeding the pigeons. Here is what I found at “Yahoo Answers.”
There was a man who was very poor, he could not afford anything. His business was poor. Despite all he would feed hungry birds, with scraps of food left over. And because the birds were so hungry and so grateful, they would thank the man for giving them food. And so in re-turn the birds prayed to Allah over and over again that the man would become richer! and luckier. Allah heard the birds prayers and slowly the man became richer and richer with strokes of luck! And his business was extremely successfull!!
My mum told me this story, basically the birds pray for you and thank you for feeding their empty stomachs! 😀
Lots of grain for lots of pigeons!
HERE IS SOME OF THE TASTY CURRIED CHICKEN THAT was served at Shudipto’s wedding reception last Sunday evening at the Party Place in Dhaka near the Police Line. I arrived early, since I hadn’t judge exactly the time to get to that area of the city. I arrived with a camera, so the guys at the entrance asked me something and I said sure. They had been talking to fast in Bangla and I didn’t totally catch it. They then took me up to the Party Place and down the back to the basement where they were cooking all the food for the reception!
CHRISTMAS EVE!!!! We hope all our friends around the world have a great Christmas Eve, and of course a special Christmas Day. I think Alice is missing not having the family together for Christmas. I had a whole grilled snapper for supper and Alice had Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice with veg and chicken and fried egg and sate! It was take-out from Cafe Nyoman near the Hotel Lumbung Damuh. I confess my two Diet Pepsi’s cost as much as Alice’s meal! The snapper was 75,000 Ind. Rupiah ($8.30!) It was late afternoon before we realized it was Christmas Eve, so we decided to celebrate! There is a Resort restaurant next door that had a special meal this evening for $60 per plate. We ate our take-out enjoying their Christmas music: Jingle Bells, etc. some hymns as well as some old John Denver era songs! Not sure when the music will end, but it is soothing and nostalgic. With the music and the sound of the waves crashing on the beach it is a nice way to spend Christmas with your best friend! And no snow to shovel!!! I had to add that for my Ohio friends. I also heard that Europe will be having a very white Christmas!
I can’t stop with one photo, so I’ll add a sunset photo over the bay.
WE HAD A GREAT THANKSGIVING MEAL YESTERDAY, prepared by the men.
We had goose, chicken, mashed potatoes, bread, french onion soup, pumpkin pie, apple pie, orange/coffee custard, potato stuffing, chicken gravy, momos, veggies, and okra. Sorry guys, if I missed an item.
Here is a photo of the potato momos I made. I took momo cooking lessons at a cafe in Darjeeling with Austin. Here is a link that a lady put online, who had also taken the lessons there: http://www.ordinaryvegetarian.com/2010/05/tibetan-momos-in-darjeeling.html
