Day 79

MYMENSINGH TRAIN STATION sign in Mymensingh, Bangladesh.  I had to put some Bangla script on my site today, since today I’m doing a Bangla dictation assessment.  Passing grade is 70%.  They will read approximately 100 words to me in Bangla and I need to write the words of the story down.  Points are taken off for spelling errors and for listening errors!  I’ll do my best and hopefully that will be good enough.

Day 60

THIS BENGALI IN MYMENSINGH SHOWED TYPICAL BENGALI HOSPITALITY when he saw me drinking a cup of tea.  When I wanted to pay for it he said, “No, I will pay for it.  Of course he said it in Bengali, since I’m quite sure he didn’t know how to speak English.  This is very typical of the Bengali people.  Six of us adults and two little girls were walking along the river in Mymensingh and a large school group came there to eat their lunch.  The teacher invited us to join them, but we declined since we had just come from ROM-III, a very good restaurant in Mymensingh.

Day 281

THREE YEARS  ago we arrived in Dhaka and unpacked our bags.  Our lives have blended with many friends, bideshi(foreigners) and Bengalis.  We have impacted others, and others have impacted us.  Life goes on whether it is a rainy or sunny day.  Today is a very rainy day, which has naturally caused a big drop in temperatures.  It is 79.9 degrees Fahrenheit outside, trying hard to stay below 80 degrees!  Winter is surely on its way.

CARPETS THAT WERE MADE AT AN MCC project in Myemsingh, Bangladesh.  Alice and I had a very nice tour with Austin, and others, visiting many of the projects in Mymensingh, as well as the Taizi Brother’s chapel.

Day 169

PRUITT, MY MEJHO (middle in Bangla) grandson playing games on my cellphone.   He is wearing the Fatuwa which was a farewell gift for him from the MCC Sacred Mark project staff.
