This is what I see as I am waiting for the tea stand to have the first morning cup of tea ready in Mymensingh!

These nice cool mornings (75 degrees F)  make this tea very inviting.  These streetside stands make as good a tea as you can get anywhere in the world!!

Flames licking the teapot in prep for a delicious cup of cha!

I love these pitas, as well as the cool evenings that accompanies them.

A Welcome Street Side Snack!

I STOPPED HERE FOR SOME TASTY FUCHKAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM JAGGANATH HALL.

BANANA BRAN MUFFINS OR BLUE MOON

Danae, here is the recipe you requested!  Note it has quite a few variations from the recipe I sent on Facebook.  I just finished eating one and thought I would like it a little sweeter, but you know I like anything sweeter than most folks.  Alice just told me she wanted something fat free, sugar free and high fiber, and is still experimenting.

2 C.   Mashed Bananas                       1/2 C.   Whole Wheat Flour

1   1/2    C. Oatmeal                                                3 tsp. Baking Soda

1/2   tsp. Salt                                                                                 3   Eggs

1  C. Yogurt                                                                    1/2  C.    Honey

1   C.  Roasted Chopped Pecans                     1  1/2 tsp. Vanilla

                                                                              2 C.    Bran

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Combine dry ingredients.  In another bowl, mix the bananas

with the liquids and stir into the dry ingredients, just until moistened.   If the final mixture

doesn’t seem dry enough add some more flour. Spoon into greased muffin tins and bake

until light brown, about 20 minutes.

I was going to feature today’s blue moon, but decided to post the muffin recipe instead.  The moon doesn’t really look blue but was given this name because it was an extra full moon and needed a name.  It refers either to the second full moon in a month (This month on August 1 and 31), or the 4th one in a season (Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall).  The moon cycle is 29.5 days. With either method the next one will be in 2015.  This is why there is the saying, “It only happens once in a blue moon (Every 2-3 years)!”

IFTAR FOOD SELECTION

Our house helper invited us and Craig’s to the Bihari camp for an Iftar meal! This is the meal that is used to break the daily fast during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Piaju, Alu Chop, Beguni, Dates, Mangoes, Pineapple, and Bhut, etc. provided a tasty way to break the fast.

PRETZELS

Here is a sampling of some of the travel snacks that arrived here  this week!  Nice for trips out of town!

Rold Gold Tiny Twists!

Alice, Denae, Abigail, and Emily help the  young girls make some sugar cookies.

It was special to go to Platinum Suites in Banani with my good friend for their breakfast buffet!  The buffet included omelets, beef bhuna, chicken sausage, pancakes, sauteed potatoes, alu bhuna, conjee soup and other items.

WE SURE ENJOYED THESE EGG SANDWICHES prepared in Old Dhaka.

NUTRITIOUS AND TASTY STREET FOOD!

STRAWBERRY DELIGHT!

IT’S NICE TO SEE THAT STRAWBERRIES ARE AVAILABLE IN BANGLADESH.  I remember in my teen years, some days picking 100 quart in a morning.  My parents yearly had anywhere from 2-6 acres of strawberries.  These berries sure were delicious over “soft” ice cream.  With the temps these days it doesn’t take long for ice cream to get soft outside of the freezer!  Almost makes you think you are eating “Dairy Queen” ice cream!

Sweet and Delicious!
