Yes there was a birthday cake!  Actually, it was given to me by the Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen Restaurant in Mt. Hope, Ohio because I ate breakfast there on my birthday.  The candle is an amazing Flower whose petals open with candles on each petal.  It also plays a nice tune.

It is nice to share my birthday with “World Photography Day!  I’ll post this today since in Bangladesh it is already on the 19th, and I haven’t told WordPress that I am in the U.S.!!

Here I am enjoying a pretzel at the train station in Bern, Switzerland!

Also proud to be wearing the TTL polo shirt from our 5th “Bangladesh in Frames” photo exhibition!   https://marlandphotos.com/2013/04/26/exciting-response-at-seeing-my-photo-at-the-exhibition/

Here I am at my favorite “hotel” (local eatery) enjoying some dal, bhaji, and nan ruti, which is typical 6-7 mornings per week.

I wish a Happy Bengali New Year to All My Friends in Bangladesh!

I confess I was busy getting my income tax report ready to file to meet tomorrow’s deadline. I guess I do have an automatic 2 month extension, but I’d rather not take it.  Anyway, we heard marchers outside on the street, so I headed out and grabbed a rickshaw to catch them on Sir Sayeed Rd.  Then I decided since I was out to go to Manik Mia, so I asked the rickshaw wallah to take me there (http://www.thedailystar.net/beta2/news/nation-mingles-with-baishakh-colours/) .  The lanes on both sides of the median were painted the whole way from Mirpur Rd. to the circle where Manik Mia splits.  It was nice to take a break and see the festive air of the city.  The photo of me was taken by the rickshaw wallah!

I hope this is a great year for Bangladesh in spite of the many hartals, demonstrations, etc. recently.

A night's work!

Left hand on top of lens to focus is not a good practice. A bad habit I have. Solider to hold the lens on the bottom for sharper photos.

We had two special sons and three grandsons, as well as a great daughter-in-law, but we never had daughters or granddaughters!

We have been blessed by others like this little gem, who are like daughters or granddaughters to my wife and I.

WHILE THE WOMEN SHOPPED TILL THEY “DROPPED,”  I DECIDED TO RELAX TILL WE MOVED TO THE NEXT STORE!

FIVE YEARS IN BANGLADESH

SOMETIME IN OUR FIRST YEAR I PICKED UP THIS STICKER AT PIZZA HUT”S CELEBRATION OF 5 YEARS IN BANGLADESH!

I hoped to be able to celebrate 5 years in Bangladesh like Pizza Hut did.

We celebrated by bringing in Chinese food from the Midnight Sun restaurant.

My wish to be in Bangladesh at least five years came true!! Whoopeee!

THE MORE THE MERRIER

Only one time was I the one with one foot out the door!  That lasted 6-8 minutes till I got crammed farther into the bus

Always room for one more?
